Privacy
Last updated: 7 October 2026
Halfway has no accounts, no ads and no cookies. We don't collect your name, email or location, we don't sell data, and there are no third-party trackers.
In your browser
Your browser's local storage keeps two things on this device only:
- Your progress (
hw:v3): a random ID, your scores and streaks, whether you've seen the intro, and your "Don't count me" choice. The random ID is replaced with a new one after about 13 months. - Tutorials seen (
hw:tutorials): which round types you've already had explained, so they don't pop up again.
To wipe both, clear this site's data in your browser settings (often under "Cookies and site data"). That also resets your streaks.
Sent to our server
When you finish one of today's games, your browser sends the day, which game, your random ID and your score to our server, which runs on Cloudflare (a US company). We use it only to tell you what share of players you beat. Past-puzzle and practice games are never sent.
Each result is stored as one row (day, game, random ID, score, time received), alongside a running count of how many players got each score. The random ID isn't linked to you, your device or anything else we hold. There is no automatic deletion yet, so rows are kept until we remove them. To have yours deleted, send us your ID (see below).
Usage stats
We use PostHog (US cloud) to count anonymous usage: which games and practice rounds are played, completed and shared, tutorials opened, hints used, round ratings, scores, how long rounds take (only while the tab is open), which day your random ID was created, page views and the site or link that brought you here, what failed to load, error reports, and whether you're on a phone or a laptop. When a search finds nothing we count only how many letters you typed, never the words. Events carry the same random ID.
PostHog is set up to discard IP addresses and not to look up location. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. There are no session recordings and no automatic click tracking.
This stops usage stats from this browser straight away. Your score is still sent for "you beat X%".
Security
Like any website, our host Cloudflare briefly processes your IP address to deliver the site and protect it (rate limiting and abuse prevention). We don't store it.
Children
The puzzles are family-friendly, and we collect no personal information from anyone, children included.
Your choices
Use the toggle above, clear your site data, or email hello@halfway.games with questions or a deletion request. To delete your stored scores, include your random ID:
